As MLB free agency continues on, the New York Mets remain in search of outfielder depth, especially after trading away Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil. This continues to lead to plenty of speculation as to who the Mets could sign or trade for this offseason to fix this issue.
*Prediction*
One player that is a free agent that makes sense for the Mets to sign if they can’t secure the big name players available like Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger is Miguel Andujar.

New York Mets Sign Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar is coming off an impressive 2025 season in which he had a .318/.352/.470 slash line, 10 home runs, 44 runs batted in, and a 125 wRC+. His offensive ability, combined with his defensive versatility, ended up helping out the Cincinnati Reds in a major way during the 2025 season, and was a major reason they made the postseason.
It is likely the Reds try and do what they can to re-sign Miguel Andujar, but the Mets should be able to make the stronger offer to be the ones able to sign him in free agency instead.
The Mets have made it clear they want their defense to be a major thing that improves in 2026, but to get the best of both worlds with someone that can also help out in the batting lineup, Miguel Andujar is the ideal free agent. With Andujar, he provides immense versatility on defense as he can play in the outfield, at first base, and at third base.
While Miguel Andujar is 30 years old, with him coming off his best season, it shows he still has more upside to be unlocked, which is an encouraging sign. For a Mets team this is needing to find a way to make it back to the postseason, Andujar is the ideal cost-effective signing they need to make.
