“I hope many people come to the baseball stadium to see my pitches.”

Yura Miyaji, wearing the blue uniform of the Samsung Lions, expected the support of many fans.

Miyaji recently expressed his feelings about joining Samsung through Samsung’s official video channel “Lions TV.”

With a physique measuring 186 centimeters and weighing 90 kilograms, Miyaji is a right-handed pitcher who throws fastballs with a maximum speed of 158 kilometers and an average speed of 149.6 kilometers. As a breaking ball, a splitter, a slider, and a curve are used. Although he has no experience in the first division of the Japanese Professional Baseball (NPB), he has leveled up to the second division of the NPB after going through the Japanese Industrial League Mickey House and the independent league Tokushima Indigo Sox from 2022. Last season, he played for Kuhu Hayate Ventures Shizuoka. It is a team participating in the NPB’s second-tier league and is one of the two teams that do not have a first-tier parent team.

Miyaji lost two and posted a 2.88 WHIP 1.40 ERA in a total of 25 innings in the NPB’s second division in the 2025 season. In addition, he had 11.2 strikeouts per 9 innings, which is suitable for the batter-friendly Daegu Samsung Lions Park.

And Miyaji will play for Samsung next season in the Asian quarter. It is a condition of up to $180,000 per year, including $100,000 in annual salary, $50,000 in incentives, and $30,000 in transfer fees.

Miyaji, who recently visited Gyeongsan Ball Park, said on the Samsung club’s official video channel, “I think (the Gyeongsan Ball Park facility) has gotten really good with my former team,” adding, “I’m Yura Miyaji from Japan. I look forward to your kind cooperation. (Joining Samsung) I’m purely happy. I’m looking forward to playing abroad in Korea. Unlike the previous stadium, (Samsung Lions Park) is likely to attract a lot of spectators. I was surprised that it was neat,” he said.

“I met some of my Samsung teammates at Samsung Lions Park. I met (Kim) Hero and (Kim) Sung-yoon while he was training, and I was surprised to see him because he had a big body,” he added.

Samsung, which is trying to win the presidential election this year, has high expectations for Miyaji. When announcing the recruitment, Samsung explained why it chose him, saying, “Miyaji will help the bullpen.” Samsung’s biggest weakness is that it returned Choi Hyung-woo, the “fourth batter of the dynasty” this off-season, and Kang Min-ho also remained in the bullpen.

Miyaji said, “(When I was offered by Samsung) I was happy and surprised to think that you saw me well when I was playing in Japan. “I thought it would be okay for me,” he said. “I think (my strength) is a strong fastball and a forkball that can induce swings and misses.”

“First of all, adapting to the team is the first thing. He nodded, “I will prepare to show the fans a powerful pitch as I carry out my usual training and the training schedule of the new training coach I will meet.”

Finally, he said, “I want to strike out a lot (as a personal goal). Daegu has many deep-rooted fans. I think there are many warm fans, so I’m looking forward to throwing it thanks to the support. In the future, Samsung will show a powerful pitch. I hope many people come to the ballpark to see my pitches,” he said, giving strength to his voice.
