The Athletics have signed left fielder/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom to a seven-year, $86 million contract, according to reports by ESPN and MLB.com.

The deal, reported on Thursday, is the most guaranteed money the organization has ever offered up in a contract in franchise history. It also reportedly contains a team option for an eighth season with contract escalators, which could make the deal worth as much as $131 million.

Soderstrom, 24, is coming off a breakout in his first full season at the major league level after the Athletics selected him in the first round (26th overall) in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Tyler Soderstrom hit .276 in 158 games (145 starts) this season with 23 home runs, 34 doubles, 93 RBIs, 75 runs, a .346 on-base percentage, and a .474 slugging percentage.

He played 108 games in left field, 49 at first base, and one as designated hitter in 2025 and has a .992 career fielding percentage over three major league seasons.

It’s the second significant move of the week for the Athletics, who also acquired infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil, a former National League batting champion, from the New York Mets on Monday for right-handed pitching prospect Yordan Rodriguez.

More on OF Tyler Soderstrom & the A’s lineup

The Athletics are shaping a compelling lineup for 2026 after locking in a cornerstone piece this week: Tyler Soderstrom agreed to a franchise-record seven-year extension. With Soderstrom’s power bat and breakout 2025 behind him, he’ll anchor the left side of the order alongside Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler, both already extended and expected to be middle-of-the-order run producers.

Behind the plate, Shea Langeliers provides premium offense and defense, while Nick Kurtz and Jacob Wilson project as youthful threats at first base and shortstop, respectively. The Athletics have also added veteran infielder-outfielder Jeff McNeil, bringing a versatile bat and leadership to the lineup.

The A’s could slot other veterans or free agents around this young nucleus, but as constructed now, the 2026 lineup looks dynamic and deep — a clear sign the rebuild is finally gaining traction following years of tearing down, building up, and repeating the cycle.

Here’s what the Athletics’ current lineup looks like as projected with FanGraphs:
