CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Hundreds of drones lit up the night sky as part of a spectacular post-game fireworks show at Great American Ball Park.

The event, featuring 400 drones, marked the largest fireworks and drone show with the Cincinnati Reds to date.

“We want to bring people something different,” said Joe Rozzi of Rozzi’s Fireworks.

The name synonymous with fireworks is now adding drone shows to its repertoire. Rozzi explained that the drones offer a unique way to tell a story without the need for large projectors and limited viewing areas.

The post-game show was filled with everything fans could expect. Leading up to the big event, the crew at Rozzi Fireworks spent hours outside Great American Ball Park on Barry Larkin Way, testing the 400 drones.

“You can do geometric shapes. You can kind of break a show up and give it a different look,” Rozzi said.

This marks the third drone show with the Reds, and this year, the number of drones has doubled from 200 to 400.

“And the more drones you have, the more detailed you can get. I mean, think of each one of these as a pixel. The more pixels you have, the more complex shapes and patterns you can do,” Rozzi said.

The crew is always thinking of new designs for future events.

“Each one is a pixel. You can line them up or what? Now I want to make them move. And now, what colors do I want? How do I want this color to chase throughout this pattern? So, there’s a lot of different elements to it,” Rozzi said.

The show alternated between drones and fireworks.

“My nephew Mike designs all our drone shows. It’s a lot more complicated than designing a firework show. But still, the software is evolving, and it’s becoming easier and easier,” Rozzi said.

Rozzi hinted at future innovations that fans could expect to see.

“One of the newest features that will be added in the coming months is the ability to add pyrotechnics to it. So, you’ll be able to shoot fireworks from these,” said Rozzi.

Rozzi’s Fireworks also conducts drone shows throughout the summer at Kings Island.
