REDDING, Calif. – A Redding man is recovering from an injury he sustained after a confrontation at the city’s lone homeless shelter on New Year’s Eve.
On December 31st around 5 P.M, police say an assault involving a baseball bat took place between two men at the Good News Rescue Mission.
According to SHASCOM-9-1-1, a man wearing a blue Adidas hoodie, and possibly a ski mask, hit another man with the baseball bat in the head hard enough to make the victim bleed.
A member of the Good News Rescue Mission’s staff told Action News Now that the incident took place in the parking lot in front of the chapel. They also said that both men were unknown to the shelter’s staff members, and had not been staying there at the time of the assault.
Redding police say they don’t know what the disturbance was regarding, and that no suspect has been arrested at this time. They also confirmed that the victim, who hasn’t yet been identified, is at a local hospital and is expected to fully recover.
As of today, police say the incident is still under investigation.
