A celebrated former center fielder for the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies has turned on President Donald Trump.
As recently as October, 62-year-old Lenny Dykstra was on social media praising Trump, calling horror author Stephen King a “hypocrite” for criticizing the president’s $250 million White House ballroom project.
On Dec. 29, however, Dykstra on X accused the president of being “compromised” without offering additional detail.
“Donald Trump is compromised,” Dykstra wrote. “Just calling it like I see it, as always.”
Dykstra first entered Major League Baseball in 1985 as part of the New York Mets, helping the team win the World Series in 1986. From 1989 to 1996, he played for the Philadelphia Phillies, winning the silver slugger award in 1993.
The baseball legend also has dealt with legal issues. In 2009, Dykstra filed for bankruptcy and in 2012, he pleaded guilty to money laundering and bankruptcy fraud.
Dykstra’s anti-Trump post stands in contrast to the other things he has published on X. His feed is mostly filled with pro-conservative and anti-liberal posts, including a repost that attacks Chelsea Clinton while simultaneously sharing a conspiracy about Clinton’s mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
One X user, known as MAGAMichelle, expressed surprise over Dykstra’s declaration.
“Dykstra, you’ve pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud, money laundering, concealing assets, and stealing from your own bankruptcy estate and Donald Trump is compromised???” The individual wrote.
In response, Dykstra told MAGAMichelle to “go (expletive) yourself” and implied that Trump broke several campaign promises.
“Run on America first, no more foreign wars, no more doing the bidding of other countries, release Epstein files day 1, and now you threaten Iran while holding hands of another foreign leader,” he wrote. “Sorry, no cult here.”
The foreign leader Dykstra appears to be alluding to is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with Trump at the president’s Mar-a-Lago private club in Florida on Dec. 29.
Following the meeting, Trump told reporters at a press conference that the United States would back Israeli strikes on Iran if the country went forward in developing ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
“Now, I hear that Iran is trying to build up again, and if they are, we’re going to have to knock them down,” Trump said. “We’ll knock them down. We’ll knock the hell out of them. But hopefully that’s not happening.”
The United States previously conducted strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025. The move drew outrage and criticism from some conservative figures, including former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
