December results

There hadn’t been a lot of activity from the D-backs, to sway the numbers in last month’s poll. We’d signed James McCann, but that had basically been it, bar some winnowing out of the chaff from the roster, and various minor-league movies. Unsurprisingly, this did not translate into a great deal of variation in overall fan confidence. Here are the numbers from the start of December:

0% – 1 (not confident in the slightest)

4% – 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

Good news! Nobody voted “1”, for the first time since May. Bad news! Not many voted more than “7”, though the top two categories have been in single digits, also since the golden, halcyon days of May. Something of a spike in the “2” area. That’s one which typically doesn’t see a lot of traction: the fifteen percent there is the highest figure it has seen since March of 2022. But compared the numbers to the previous poll, it looks like most of them simply shifted down from a “3”, so didn’t move the needle much, and was more than balanced out by an uptick in some of the other categories. All told, the average confidence say at 5.12, very little changed from 5.00 the last time we checked in.

Below, you can see the breakdown for the past 12 polls’ results, followed by the line graph showing the trends over this and previous seasons.

January poll

Actual moves! Woo-hoo! The team did move to strengthen their starting pitching, first with the signing of Mike Soroka, and then the welcome (and not unexpected) return of Merrill Kelly. Those were certainly needed. However, the biggest story has certainly been a move which, at time of writing, has not happened: the trade of Ketel Marte. Is that good or bad? And are you concerned about the lack of moves to bolster the bullpen, address the corner infield and strengthen the outfield? Or are you happy to be patient and wait, rather than rushing into a potential mistake for the sake of making a signing?
