Alan Escobar played almost his entire season at just 16 years old, so while his numbers demand the small sample size and strange-league provisos that are always attached to DSL play, they show enormous promise.
Adding to Escobar’s grativas is the fact that the White Sox signed him out of Venezuela for $350,000, no small feat for such a young player. He was six feet tall at signing, so his singles-hitter frame has lots of room still to grow; don’t expect Escobar to slug in the .300s again.
Otherwise, he has a nice bag of tools for such a young player, with speed, some bat discipline, and a solid hit tool. We don’t usually have a lot to say about DSL prospects due to the difficulty of getting any eyes at all on them, much less detailed skills reporting. But these players move all the way up the system with regularity, so let’s get them on the radar when appropriate.
It’s not quite a coin flip whether Escobar plays Stateside in the ACL in 2026, but given the aggressive in-season move to Arizona by Christian Gonzalez in 2025, chances are that the left fielder has seen his last of the DSL.
