Milwaukee Brewers pitching prospect Frank Cairone was hospitalized following a serious car crash in New Jersey, the team announced.

Cairone, 18, was involved in the crash near his hometown of Franklinville, N.J., on Friday, and was being treated at a hospital in the state as of Saturday night, according to the team.

“Frank is currently being cared for at a hospital in New Jersey with the support of his family,” a statement from the club read. “The Brewers’ thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family during his difficult time.”

The team said it would release updates about Cairone’s condition when they are available.

Cairone is the 26th-ranked prospect in the Brewers’ system, according to MLB Pipeline. Milwaukee selected the 6-foot-2, 195-pound left-handed pitcher out of Franklinville’s Delsea Regional High with the 68th pick in the 2025 draft.

Before the draft, The Athletic’s Keith Law described Cairone as a “projectable lefty … with what will probably be a plus curveball when he fills out and adds some velocity. His arm works well, and he’s around the plate enough to see future-average or better command.”

Cairone spent parts of the summer and fall at the Brewers’ training facility in Arizona, where he was preparing to begin his professional career in 2026.
