Edward Cabrera
The Miami Marlins find themselves once again in an interesting spot this MLB offseason. They are coming off a 2025 season in which they had a 79-83 record, showing they are borderline competitive, but still have work that needs to be done to fully reach a competitive level.

*Prediction*

One way in which Miami can achieve this is by making trades, and one player that has emerged as a key trade candidate is Edwards Cabrera. If the Marlins do go on to trade him, it is the New York Yankees that make the most sense to trade for him.

The New York Yankees are lacking overall talent on the team, and that is an issue as they are a team that has Aaron Judge, and should be expected to be contenders, but at this point in time, they don’t have the roster to accomplish this.

One major thing that the Yankees need to make sure they improve with is their pitching, as right now the unit is not one that they should be confident in at all. Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt will be returning at some point in 2026, but both are coming off Tommy John surgery, and even when they do return it will be a major question as to how soon they will be able to make an impact.

The Yankees need to add to their pitching staff to make sure they have enough depth to truly contend for 2026, and how they can secure a top-end starter is by trading for Edward Cabrera.

In doing so, the Yankees would secure a long-term starter at the top of their rotation. Over five seasons, Cabrera has showcased his potential with a 4.07 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 478 strikeouts. With him being just 27 years old, he would be someone that can revolutionize the Yankees’ bullpen and set their pitching up better for the future.
