The Philadelphia Phillies have already made one of the bigger moves of the offseason by re-signing Kyle Schwarber, showing that the organization still believes its championship window is relatively open.

However, bringing Schwarber back also brings up other concerns, as currently constructed, this lineup has shown what it does in October, and it hasn’t been good enough.

That’s why the idea of the Phillies making a play for Bo Bichette is starting to gain traction for some.

According to Zachary Rotman of FanSided, Philadelphia hasn’t been linked to Bichette as heavily as some other teams, but that doesn’t mean the fit isn’t there, or that the Phillies shouldn’t be aggressive. He touched on that Schwarber’s return was important, but it also means the Phillies are running back an offense that has struggled when it matters.

Adding Bichette would help change that.

“The Philadelphia Phillies haven’t been linked to Bichette as much as the other teams on this list and have already made a major splash this offseason by re-signing Kyle Schwarber, but they should not be done yet,” Rotman wrote. “As important as it was to bring Schwarber back, as of now the Phillies are essentially running back a lineup that’s consistently underperformed in October. Signing a player like Bichette, though, would change things.”

Bichette is a very bad defender and with the Phillies’ need for an outfielder, he doesn’t help that, but everyone knows why a team would sign him, and it’s due to what he can do on the offensive side of the baseball.

Rothman also believes that signing him would open other doors for trades.

“He isn’t the outfielder that Philly desperately needs, but his right-handed bat would add more balance to the lineup, and it wouldn’t be tough to make room for him,” Rotman added. “The Phillies could trade one of Alec Bohm or Bryson Stott for a catcher, outfielder or pitcher, creating room for Bichette at third base or second base.”

For a Phillies team that’s been close but not through the door, running it back would be questionable.

It’ll likely come down to his price, which should start to take shape soon.
