Trade pitch has Yankees acquiring Freddy Peralta in blockbuster.
Milwaukee Brewers‘ starter Freddy Peralta has become the subject of trade rumors across Major League Baseball. Reports have indicated that Milwaukee’s asking price remains very high, but it’s not far-fetched to believe he could be on the move. The Atlanta Braves have entered the conversation as being in play for Peralta.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, the Braves join the New York Mets, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees as potential landing spots for Freddy Peralta. The appeal for Peralta is obvious, as he’s becoming one of the best starters in baseball, but do one of these MLB contenders have what it takes to acquire the two-time All-Star?

Braves Interested in Freddy Peralta
This is huge news for Braves fans, who are hoping and expect Atlanta to add a formidable starter this offseason to help with rotation depth.
The big question for Atlanta becomes, do they have enough trade capital to compete with the other big contenders like the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees, who all have deep farm systems and MLB-level players that they could move on from?

The Braves have players on their big-league roster that are also certainly attractive for the Brewers, but Atlanta has already reached a contract agreement with many of those players.
Freddy Peralta is a two-time All-Star, and coming off his best season in MLB, where he posted a career-low 2.70 ERA over 176.2 innings and 200+ strikeouts. He’s earning just $8 million in 2026, before he enters free agency next offseason.
Another reason this speculation is surrounding Peralta being traded is the fact that Milwaukee doesn’t often extend its star players, and this could be a great opportunity to get a haul for him, or else the Brewers run the risk of missing out on his services altogether in the coming years.

What Could the Braves Give Up?
The next question becomes what could the Braves give up in a deal like this?
Their top prospect is JR Ritchie, who would surely be the focal point of a potential deal, but Atlanta does also have some young arms with MLB service like Hurston Waldrep and AJ Smith-Shawver.
Another potential trade chip is Nacho Alvarez, who finished the 2025 season getting a handful of at-bats in Austin Riley’s absence.
With Braves starters missing so much time in 2025 due to injury, the president of baseball operations, Alex Anthopoulos, has been adamant about adding an “impact” arm this offseason, and Peralta would certainly fit that bill. Freddy Peralta has made 30+ starts and recorded 200+ strikeouts in three consecutive seasons.
However, the next question with Peralta becomes, would the Braves be able to afford him after the 2026 season? And if not, would they be as willing to trade young pieces for Peralta’s services for just one year?
