Milwaukee Brewers prospect Frank Cairone was ‘not at fault’ in the serious New Jersey car crash that left him hospitalized at the weekend, police have announced.
Cairone, the 18-year-old pitcher selected by Milwaukee in the second round of last year’s MLB Draft, was involved in an accident near his home in Franklinville on Friday night and taken to hospital shortly after.
The collision occurred when a female driver blew past a stop sign at the intersection of Fries Mill Road and Williamstown Road, according to Franklin Township Chief of Police Matthew DeCesari.
‘He was not at fault,’ DeCesari told The New York Post on Monday.
The driver of Cairone’s vehicle and a female passenger, identified as his girlfriend, were both injured and taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
DeCesari confirmed that the baseball player was airlifted to Atlantic City Medical and remains surrounded by his family in hospital.

Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold provided an update on Monday, revealing Cairone is ‘progressing positively’ in his recovery.
The driver who caused the wreck is set to be hit with charges, including disregarding a stop sign and reckless driving – although DeCesari claimed alcohol or drugs were not to blame for the crash.
Cairone is a highly-rated, 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher whose fastball hits 95mph. He was ranked 26th on the list of the Brewers’ prospects.
He was watched by many MLB scouts in his 2025 season opener for Delsea High School back in April, and prior to that, as per the Courier Post, MLB teams had even met with his family.
Speaking of the high-profile interest, Cairone said at the time: ‘Obviously, I notice it, but it doesn’t change anything.
‘It’s just other people watching, it’s like my parents’ friends. It’s cool to see.’
He was eventually signed by the Brewers for below slot at $1,097,500.
