Most mock MLB Drafts to date have been either first round only or stopping at the 40th pick, which happens to be the Dodgers’ first selection in the 2025 draft. But on Monday at Baseball America, six writers extended their staff-picked mock draft to the first 50 picks.

That means we also get a second faux selection for the Dodgers’ second pick, at 41st overall, the Competitive Balance Round A pick the team got as part of the Gavin Lux trade to the Reds in January.

In this week’s Baseball America mock draft, they had the Dodgers taking Arizona outfielder Brendan Summerhill with the No. 41 pick.

“Summerhill stands out for his barrel accuracy and strike-zone judgment from the left side of the plate. At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, there’s physicality with Summerhill, but that size and strength has not lended itself to big power in games,” wrote Ben Badler, explaining his rationale for the selection in this mock draft exercise. “Once the Dodgers help him learn to drive more pitches in the air to his pull side rather than being content sending balls to the opposite field, there’s more power he could unlock.”

Summerhill is hitting .414/.508/.697 with seven doubles, six triples, and three home runs through 25 games this season for Arizona. He earned Pac-12 All-Conference honors in 2024, hitting .324/.399/.550 as a sophomore with 32 extra-base hits in 58 games.

Baseball America rates Summerhill as the 24th-best prospect in the draft, which begs the question of whether he’d even be available for the Dodgers to pick at 40th or 41st. MLB Pipeline ranked Summerhill the 22nd-best prospect in the draft:

Considered by many to be the best player in the four corners region when healthy, Summerhill is a strong and athletic left-handed hitter who has the chance to be a dynamic player on both sides of the ball. He’s shown a very good approach at the plate, walking nearly as often as he struck out in 2024 and limiting the swing-and-miss that some area scouts saw from him during his time in the Chicago high school ranks. Still, he’ll have to work on his tendency to chase at the next level. He’s just starting to tap into his raw power and it’s showing up right now mostly to his pull side.
