Here are our Milwaukee Brewers player grades for 2025, based on analysis by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Brewers beat writers Todd Rosiak and Curt Hogg.
The Milwaukee Brewers announced several changes to their 2026 coaching staff.Four returning coaches will take on new roles within the organization.Four new coaches have been added, including former player Daniel Vogelbach as an assistant hitting coach.
The Milwaukee Brewers have completed their 2026 coaching staff, and it’s going to feature quite a few changes with four returning coaches assuming new roles and four newcomers in the wake of Rickie Weeks not returning as associate manager.
Jason Lane (11th season) moves to offense and strategy coordinator from coaching third base; Jim Henderson (fifth season) shifts to pitching coordinator from assistant pitching coach; Eric Theisen (second season) becomes lead hitting coach after serving as hitting coach in 2025; and Matt Erickson (third season) will coach third base after a two-year run as infield coach.
Erickson will continue to serve as lead infield instructor.
Pitching coach Chris Hook (eighth season), bullpen coach Charlie Greene (third season) and field coordinator Néstor Corredor (fourth season) all return in their previous roles on manager Pat Murphy’s staff.
New to the staff are Spencer Allen (first base coach), Juan Sandoval (assistant pitching coach) and Guillermo Hernandez and Daniel Vogelbach (assistant hitting coaches).
“Bringing a lot of people back and elevating some people is really exciting,” said president of baseball operations Matt Arnold. “With Rickie (Weeks) transitioning (from associate manager) to a different role, it gave us an opportunity to re-think and review the staff that we’ve had in place here.
“We have a lot of really good people. There were some opportunities for people to grow, which is great, and obviously maintain a really strong core and add to it.”
Hook remains the overseer of the pitching group, with Henderson’s role further expanding.
“Hooky is obviously the lead pitching coach and has done a wonderful job for us for so many years. He’s been a rock in our franchise,” Arnold said. “Jim and Hooky have partnered together forever. For Jim, this is just an opportunity for him to continue to grow and be more involved with game preparation with Murph on a day-to-day basis.
“I think that’s a big part of this – not just with the pitching but also decision making with Murph.”
Allen, 48, enters his fifth season with the Brewers after spending the previous two as director of player development. Before joining the organization, Allen was head baseball coach at Northwestern University (2016-21).
He replaces Julio Borbón, who will assist in efforts across baseball operations with a focus on player development and scouting, and also take over the role of lead baserunning instructor.
Sandoval, who turns 45 on Jan. 12, is also entering his fifth season in the Milwaukee organization. He just wrapped up his second season as assistant coordinator of minor-league pitching and also pitched in the minor leagues for the Brewers in 2008 and 2009.
“For us to be able to promote from within is exciting,” Arnold said when asked about Allen and Sandoval. “Spencer has worn a lot of hats in our organization. Juan as well. Coming up through our system, and everything he’s been through in his life, I think he’s going to be a great complement to Hooky and Jim as well.”
Martinez, 41, is new to the organization after spending last season as hitting coach at Class AA Knoxville in the Chicago Cubs system. Martinez’s coaching experience extends to 2013, and from 2019-24 he was hitting coach for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Vogelbach, 33, is a name well-known to Brewers fans, as he spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons as a designated hitter-first baseman with the team. On Sept. 5, 2021 he slugged one of the more memorable regular-season home runs in franchise history – a pinch-hit, walk-off grand slam to beat the St. Louis Cardinals.
He began his coaching career last season with a stint as special assistant for hitting with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“He’s been a great big-league hitter. He’s come off the bench and prepared as a bat off the bench,” Arnold said. “He just knows how to get ready in all kinds of different roles. And so I think his experience and knowledge of hitting and how to hit in different situations is going to be a huge asset for our group.”
Al LeBoeuf, who served as lead hitting coach with the Brewers last season, assumes a role similar to Borbón’s.
“I feel like it’s an opportunity for (LeBoeuf) to expand his reach across hitting in our franchise and get involved with other parts of baseball operations,” said Arnold. “Eric Theisen, Guillermo Martinez – who’s been a lead hitting coach in the major leagues before – and somebody like Daniel Vogelbach to round it out, we just feel that when you zoom out from that group as a whole it makes the Brewers even stronger.”
Additionally, Daniel de Mondesert transitions from assistant coach to game preparation specialist while also remaining as Spanish language interpreter.
“It’s just a little bit of a shift in role,” Arnold said. “He’s still going to be very impactful in supporting our pitching preparations. That’s something that is key to everything we do here, pitching and defense. Danny’s going to be a really important resource for all the guys and I could consider this a nice expansion of Danny’s role and a chance for him to grow as well.”
Finally, Christian Correa returns for his third season as bullpen coach with Ty Duvall joining Correa for his first.
