The American Legion, Yolo Post 77, will again be holding its annual crab feed dinner.

The dinner, which in the past has raised $12,000 or more, begins at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, in Waite Hall of the Yolo County Fairgrounds.

The fundraiser is critical for Yolo Post 77, which is the only Post in the state to cover the costs incurred by players, such as insurance, uniforms, registration and tournament fees, umpires, and field lights and prep.

There are no city fees (other than lighting) incurred by the Post under an agreement between the City of Woodland and Yolo Post 77.

History was made in 1949 when the Post bought Clark Field, after it had fallen into bankruptcy, and donated it to the City of Woodland.

Clark Field has hosted spring training exhibition games for major league teams, including the Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the New York Giants. Both Joe DiMaggio and Dustin Pedroia have played on Clark Field.

The 2025 American Legion Yolo Post 77 season resulted in 50-50 wins vs. losses with 30 games played in a nine-week season. The main objective of qualifying for the Area Tournament was achieved and the team is now upgraded from A to AA status.

The regular season games for 2026 begin in May, and an up-to-date schedule will be posted on the bulletin board outside the Post, 523 Bush St., Woodland.

The Post is hosting the first Frank Eakle Baseball Tournament in June at Clark Field. Eakle was the team manager for Yolo Post 77 for 35 years, until his death in August 2024.

The Post urges the community to come out and support our American Legion Team. Thanks go out to last season’s coaches, Anthony VanDam, Josh Pulley, and Dave Ryan, and Post members who have voluntarily dedicated countless hours to the success of this fundraiser and to American Legion Baseball.

Tickets are $80 per person and can be obtained at the Post, 523 Bush Street, Woodland, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and at the Post club room, from 4 p.m. to closing, each Thursday and Friday; or call Manager Tammy Pohl at 908-3973 or the Post 662-9772.
