The New York Mets might officially be in trade mode. On top of being one of the most active teams in terms of trades this offseason so far, reports indicate that the Mets are shifting their focus to adding via the trade market. David Stearns has already traded away Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo for assets like Marcus Semien.
As the Mets continue to be linked to high-profile free agents, they will also continue to be rumored to trade for some of MLB’s top tradeable players this winter. New York has a strong need for an outfielder, especially a center fielder, which makes the Chicago White Sox‘ outfielder, Luis Robert. Jr is a perfect option.

Mets-White Sox Trade Prediction Lands Luis Robert Jr.
Luis Robert Jr. has had some ups and downs in a Mets uniform over the past few seasons, but a large part of that has been staying on the field, and 2025 featured Robert Jr. getting closer to his 2023 All-Star form. Luis has played in 110 and 100 games in each of the past two seasons.
In this trade idea, the New York Mets acquire outfielder Luis Robert Jr. from the White Sox in return for Brett Baty and prospect Mitch Voit.

Rising Apple’s Tim Boyle also floated the idea of the Mets trading for Robert Jr.:
“Robert is a run prevention guy at his absolute worst and a contributing member of the lineup hitting in the middle of the order at his best.”
If the Mets are still adamant about adding defense and an outfielder, then offloading Baty for another power threat and a solid defensive outfielder feels like the right package, and then New York also throws in No. 9 overall prospect in Voit.

What Would Luis Robert Jr. Bring to Queens?
Luis Robert Jr., unless the Mets go out and acquire Cody Bellinger or Harrison Bader, which could be likely, would slot in as the everyday center fielder. Robert Jr. has been a below-average hitter in terms of OPS+ over the last two seasons (86, 85), but he has shown solid power upside in his career.
He is a career .259 hitter with 102 home runs, 298 RBIs, and a career-OPS+ of 111. He hit 38 home runs in 2023 and earned a few AL MVP votes. He’s spent all six seasons of his MLB career with the White Sox.
As the reports surrounding the Mets wanting to make meaningful trades strengthen, expect all of the top outfield trade targets (Jarren Duran, Robert Jr., Steven Kwan) to continue being linked and rumored to New York.
However, it will ultimately be up to David Stearns and the company in the front office if they want to offload either prospects or MLB-ready players.
