The Chicago Cubs made their biggest move of the offseason when they traded for Edward Cabrera, but they’ve yet to sign a big fish free agent. With Kyle Tucker probably gone, they’ll need to replace his bat in the lineup.

According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, the Cubs need to go out and pursue Bo Bichette heavily, as he is one of the best All-Star hitters left on the market.

“Bichette, meanwhile, provides a younger option. He’s only 27, so he’s four years younger than Bregman…The Cubs would be getting more prime years out of Bichette than they would with Bregman and can build around him long-term in the infield…The Cubs should do it. They need to operate like a big-market team and attempt to not only catch, but pass, the Milwaukee Brewers in the Central. And the opportunity to do so is staring them right in the face,” Murray wrote.

This past season, Bichette slashed .311/.357/.483/.840 with 44 doubles, 18 home runs, and 94 RBI in 139 games played. He would slot in over Matt Shaw at third, who had an ok year, but still hasn’t made the leap like Chicago wants him to.

Bichette is projected to get a contract of somewhere around eight years, $186 million. This would mean a long-term commitment from the Cubs, and he would effectively become the face of their franchise for almost the next decade.

If the Cubs are down for that, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t pursue this signing. Hopefully they do, and take control of the NL Central.
