VICTORIA, Texas — A suspect was taken into custody following a standoff and exchange of gunfire with deputies late Wednesday night, according to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office. The incident began with a reported disturbance in Bloomington and ended with a crash in Victoria.

Deputies responded to a disturbance call around 11:58 p.m. on January 7th in the 400 block of Black Bayou #1. Before their arrival, the suspect fled, leading deputies on a vehicle pursuit northbound on Highway 185. The chase concluded when the suspect crashed at the intersection of North Street and Nelson Avenue. According to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect displayed a firearm and refused to comply with commands, resulting in a standoff. The suspect fired at deputies, who returned fire, before being taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.

The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation into the incident. No other injuries have been reported, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, stated the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office.
