After trading for right-hander Edward Cabrera yesterday, the first order of business for the Cubs and their new pitcher was deciding how much he was going to earn this upcoming season. Just before the deadline to exchange arbitration contract figures today, the Cubs and Cabrera agreed to a $4.45 million deal for 2026.

Cabrera made $1.950 million last year with the Marlins, his final year before reaching eligibility for arbitration. The Cubs have two more years of arb-eligible control of Cabrera after this one.

UPDATE: Javier Assad and the Cubs agreed to a $1.8 million contract for 2026. That’s in line with the MLB Trade Rumors projection of $1.9 million. With that, the Cubs have no players going to arbitration this year.
