The Toronto Blue Jays came up just short of the World Series title last year, but decided to respond in the best way possible.

Rather than sit on their hands in free agency, the Blue Jays made big moves to kick off the offseason. They signed Dylan Cease to a massive $210 million contract a few weeks after the World Series concluded. This isn’t the only move they’ve made, either. As a result, the Blue Jays could lose some of their veteran players in free agency.

Just Baseball’s Cristian Crespo predicted the Blue Jays would lose veteran pitcher Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers in free agency this winter.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer

“Scherzer has shown no indication that he is ready to hang it up, and who could blame him?” Crespo wrote. “The elite wipeout stuff isn’t there anymore, and the durability has been a question mark, but he would provide value to a Rangers team needing to bolster its starting rotation at an affordable price.”

Scherzer isn’t in the midst of his prime at this point, but he’s still a usable arm, especially for a team like the Rangers. The Rangers have a lot of young talent coming up through the minor leagues, but they need one more big league pitcher.

Scherzer could end his career with the Rangers on a one-year deal. They’re looking to get back to the postseason this year. If Scherzer can be a productive arm, the Rangers would be in a good spot going forward.
