The trade market this offseason has a chance to be very hot. There are several top pitchers expected to be on the market, including Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal and Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.

Peralta might be the more intriguing trade chip of the offseason. Most teams wouldn’t explore the idea of trading such a talented pitcher, but the Brewers are an exception. Milwaukee will almost certainly lose Peralta when his contract expires at the end of the year, so a trade could make sense.

Jackson Roberts of Fastball OnSi predicted the Brewers would cut ties with Peralta in a trade this offseason.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta

“This one was a very tough call,” Roberts wrote. “The Milwaukee Brewers, like the Tigers, are in a position to contend for the playoffs in 2026. But we’ve seen them move on from their stars before, including in each of the last two offseasons, when they dealt away Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams in the exact same contract situations that Peralta now occupies.”

If the Brewers opt to trade Peralta, the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, and New York Mets could make sense as landing spots.

The Yankees need to add a starting pitcher as Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt recover from major injuries. Trading for Peralta would give them an additional ace to pair at the top of their rotation.

The Mets need pitching as desperately as any team in the game. Their starting rotation was a key reason they missed the postseason last year.

The Giants are a few steps behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Adding an ace like Peralta at the top of the rotation gives them a pitcher that can go toe to toe with any ace in baseball.
