A 39-year-old man has died as a result of an officer-involved shooting.

According to a Thursday afternoon news release from Victoria County Sheriff Justin Marr, around midnight Wednesday, deputies responded to a domestic violence disturbance in the 400 block of Black Bayou #1 Road in Bloomington — which was the second call from the same address within 24 hours.

“Last night, at approximately 11:58 p.m., deputies were dispatched back to the same residence after receiving a report that the offender had returned to the location with a handgun and caused a second disturbance,” Marr’s statement said. “As deputies arrived, the suspect fled the scene in a black SUV, and a vehicle pursuit began. The suspect traveled northbound on Highway 185 and entered the city limits. During the pursuit, deputies reported that the offender fired shots from the vehicle. The driver and sole occupant of the black SUV ultimately crashed at the intersection of North Street and Nelson Avenue. Following the crash, the offender immediately began shooting at deputies, the deputies returned fire, and a standoff began.”

According to Marr’s statement, the standoff, which involved the SWAT team, lasted an hour.

During the standoff, police say “deputies and members of the SWAT team made repeated attempts to negotiate and gain compliance. In the course of negotiating, the offender pointed his handgun at deputies, resulting in the officer involved shooting.”

The man was identified by Marr as Ysidro Trevino, from Beeville, who later died at a local hospital.

“I am grateful no other injuries were reported,” Marr said in his statement.

The investigation remains ongoing and is now being handled by the Texas Rangers.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ruben San Miguel confirmed Trevino’s death to the Victoria Advocate.
