KANSAS CITY, Mo — The Kansas City Royals announced that Kauffman Stadium’s outfield wall will be moved in for the 2026 season, a change expected to increase home runs and extra-base hits while bringing fans closer to the action. The decision, made by Baseball Operations for competitive reasons, aims to align The K with other Major League ballparks. “We’ve discussed this possibility for years, and after much work by our Research & Development department, believe this will be a positive change for our baseball team,” said Royals Executive Vice President and General Manager J.J. Picollo. The wall will be moved in 8 to 10 feet starting near each foul pole, with gaps reduced from 387 feet to 379 feet, while centerfield will remain 410 feet. The wall height will change from 10 feet to 8 1/2 feet, adding about 150 seats in left field and 80 new drinkrail seats in right. The Royals’ research suggests these changes will elevate the run value of fly balls at The K from the bottom third to the middle among MLB ballparks. “Making this a fairer ballpark will help with roster construction, but more importantly will allow our players to keep the same approach regardless of where we play,” said Royals Vice President – Research & Development/Assistant GM Dr. Daniel Mack. The project is set to be completed before the Royals’ home opener against the Twins on March 30, 2026.
