The Pittsburgh Pirates traded right-handed reliever Chase Shugart to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league third baseman Francisco Loreto.

Shugart, 29, was designated for assignment Thursday to make room on the 40-man roster for Ryan O’Hearn. Shugart posted a 4-3 record with a 3.40 ERA and 31 strikeouts and 17 walks in 45 innings with the Pirates during the 2025 season. Shugart, who has an option remaining, was Boston’s 18th-round pick in 2018.
