The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to trade star 3rd Baseman Nolan Arenado to the Arizona Diamondbacks for 22-year-old Pitcher Jack Martinez, MLB.com reports. Arenado waived his no-trade clause to join the Diamondbacks.

Martinez is a 2025 8th-round draft pick from Arizona State University. According to MLB.com “Arenado is owed $42 million over the next two seasons, and Arizona will receive $31 million in the deal, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, though the present-day impact for the Cardinals comes out to less than that as St. Louis will pay out the $6 million in deferred money owed to Arenado, which isn’t payable until 2040-41”.

The move signals that the Cardinals are clearly in rebuild mode. After failing to make the playoffs for 3 straight seasons. Listen to Cardinals Baseball on CTB Sports 1390 KCRC, 1640 KZLS.
