Fire breaks out at Fort Des Moines Little League concession stand

FRIDAY. I’LL HAVE MORE DETAILS ON THAT COMING UP SHORTLY. THANK YOU. JASON, FIRE INVESTIGATORS ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT STARTED A FIRE AT A CENTRAL IOWA LITTLE LEAGUE BALLPARK CONCESSION STAND OVERNIGHT. KCCI OLIVIA TYLER TALKED TO THE LEAGUE AFTER THE FLAMES WERE PUT OUT. THE FORT DES MOINES LITTLE LEAGUE IS DEVASTATED. THEY WOKE UP TO NEWS THAT THEIR BELOVED CONCESSION STAND BURNT DOWN MONDAY NIGHT. THIS BUILDING, ONCE HELD 70 YEARS OF RECORDS AND BASEBALL EQUIPMENT, AND NOW IT’S ALL GONE AND THE LEAGUE IS STUCK FIGURING OUT HOW TO PICK UP THE PIECES. A LITTLE OVERWHELMING AT THIS POINT TO KIND OF FIGURE OUT WHAT WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO NEXT. THE CONCESSION STAND IS KIND OF THE HEART OF THE LITTLE LEAGUE IS WHERE EVERYTHING HAPPENS, IS WHERE EVERYBODY GATHERS. IT’S WHERE THE KIDS GO AFTER THE GAMES. JUST BEFORE NINE MONDAY NIGHT, THE NORTHERN WARREN FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT A CALL ABOUT A BUILDING ENGULFED IN FLAMES. WHEN FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED. CHERRY SNACK SHACK AT KELLY FIELDS WAS IN SUCH BAD SHAPE THEY WEREN’T ABLE TO MAKE ENTRY. THE AREA SOUTHEAST OF THE BLANK PARK ZOO WILL NEED TO REPLACE ALL THE. ALL OUR EQUIPMENT WAS STORED THERE, ALL OUR BASEBALLS AND BATS AND CATCHER’S GEARS AND ALL THAT STUFF IS STORED IN THAT, IN THAT BUILDING, YOU KNOW, OLD LEAGUE RECORDS, OLD UNIFORMS, ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF IS STORED IN THERE. AND THAT’S NOT ALL. FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED BACK FOR A FIRE REIGNITING JUST BEFORE 6:00 TUESDAY MORNING. THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION, AND OFFICIALS ARE ASKING EVERYONE TO STAY OUT OF THE BALLPARK DURING THE INVESTIGATION. WE’LL BE CONTACTING OUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND GOING FORWARD WITH THE NEXT STEPS ON WHAT TO DO. BUT AS FOR BASEBALL SEASON AND A COUPLE OF MONTHS, WE’RE HOPEFUL THAT WE’LL BE ABLE TO PROCEED WITH THE WITH THE REGULAR SEASON
