The New York Mets have an offer on the table for star free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker that is a similar structure to what the Los Angeles Dodgers would likely give to the 28-year-old.

“The New York Mets are pursuing superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker – and have made a short-term offer worth $50 million per season, sources say. John Mincone first reported the Mets’ offer.,” MLB insider Robert Murray reported.

“Tucker, 29 on Saturday, is the consensus top free agent this winter and has drawn interest from numerous teams, with reports linking him to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, among others. Tucker was spotted visiting the Blue Jays’ spring training facility in Dunedin, Fla. in early December, as FanSided first reported.”

The Dodgers have been linked to Tucker since the start of the offseason, but it remained a mystery whether the outfielder would be willing to join the defending champions on a short-term contract. Now, it appears the Mets have made Tucker a bold offer with the Dodgers and Blue Jays still looming.

Tucker is expected to make a decision as soon as this week, reportedly as soon as the next day or two.

While Mets owner Steve Cohen can outspend anyone, the team missed the playoffs last season. Their offseason has seen several fan favorites such as Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz leave.

But the narrative surrounding the Mets this winter would completely change if the club lands Tucker.

If the Dodgers and Mets are both offering Tucker a short-term contract with a high AAV, why wouldn’t the outfielder choose LA?

Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain explained why Tucker choosing the Dodgers over the Mets should be a “no-brainer.”

“With the Dodgers, you’re going to be batting in a lineup with Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts. Imagine that, what your numbers would like with that kind of protection. The Mets are a team that did not make the postseason last year. The Mets are a team where there’s rumors that their stars aren’t getting along. It’s the L.O.L Mets versus the L.F.G. Dodgers,” McKain said on Dodgers Dougout Live.

Dodgers fans should know soon whether Tucker will be a friend or foe.
