Nolan Arenado’s protracted exit from St. Louis has finally happened.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired the veteran third baseman from the Cardinals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jack Martinez.
Arenado, 34, has two years remaining on an eight-year, $260 million deal signed as a member of the Colorado Rockies.
The Athletic’s Katie Woo reported earlier on Tuesday that the two teams were in serious discussions for the player.
A native of Newport Beach, CA, Arenado has spent the past five seasons with the Cards and is set to embark on a 14th big-league season. He appeared in 107 games in 2025, batting .237 with 95 hits, 12 home runs, 52 runs batted in and an OPS of .666.
A second-round pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, Arenado is a 10-time Gold Glove winner, five-time Silver Slugger and eight-time All-Star.
Arenado holds a full no-trade clause and needed to waive it for a deal to the D-Backs to be consummated.
Martinez, 22, was an eighth-round pick in the 2025 MLB Amateur Draft out of Arizona State.
