The Mets placed third baseman Brett Baty on the 10-day IL on Saturday with an oblique injury.

The New York Mets are officially heating up this hot stove season. On Friday, they made a shocking move by signing shortstop Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million contract. Now, their infield appears to be set, which might pave the way for another impactful move via a trade with the Los Angeles Angels.

After trading for Marcus Semien, signing Jorge Polanco, and then adding Bo Bichette to pair with Francisco Lindor, the Mets’ infield is one of the best in baseball, but New York still has two holes in the outfield. With the Bichette signing making the infield so crowded, infielder Brett Baty might not have as much of a prominent role with the Mets, and New York’s front office should consider making a trade for Angels’ outfielder Jo Adell, who had been the subject of trade rumors earlier this offseason.

Mets-Angels Trade Idea Sends Jo Adell to Queens

If you remember correctly, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported that the Angels were shopping Taylor Ward and Jo Adell. Ward has since been moved to the Orioles, but those Adell rumors had never quite materialized. It’s fair to assume Los Angeles is still fielding offers on Jo Adell, who enjoyed a breakout 2025 season with 37 home runs and recently avoided arbitration with the Angels.

In this trade pitch, the Mets acquire Jo Adell from the Angels in exchange for Brett Baty and top prospect Jonah Tong.

With reports indicating that the Mets could also be turning their attention to the trade market, this deal makes sense for both sides. The Angels are rebuilding, need pitching help, and could build around Zach Neto and Brett Baty, who are both young and controllable.

And for the Mets, they clear up one of their needs in the outfield. New York continues to be linked to top free agent outfielders like Cody Bellinger and Harrison Bader after missing out on Kyle Tucker, but if they are unable to outbid other Bellinger suitors, it makes more sense to pull off a blockbuster trade than sign an unproven outfielder to fill the left field void.

Mets Starting To Have One of the Better Offseason’s in MLB.

After a slow start and losing franchise icons in Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso to free agency, the Mets’ offseason is starting to round into form.

It seems as if David Stears is ridding of the sour taste from the end of the 2025 season and bringing in a new cast of players.

This includes a revamped infielder that features Marcus Semien, Bo Bichette, and Jorge Polanco (who may be the DH).

Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil have been shipped out of town, and all that remains for the Mets to do this offseason is add an outfielder (which could be Jo Adell via trade) and add another starter or two.

The starting pitcher market is a little deeper than the outfield market at this time, which gives the Mets more freedom in striking a deal.

Even if a Jo Adell to the Mets deal is not done this offseason, expect Adell to receive trade buzz as the season progresses, especially if the Angels are non-competitive.

Adell experienced career-marks in home runs, OPS+, RBIs, hits, and doubles in 2025.
