Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were embargoed by the Columbus Clippers (Guardians), 5-1.
Jordan Wicks started this game, struck out one batter and left the game with an apparent injury.
Brandon Hughes was pressed into relief and he gave up four runs in the first inning and took the loss. Hughes’ final line was four runs, two earned, on four hits over two-thirds of an inning. Hughes walked one and struck out one.
Second baseman James Triantos went 2 for 4. He scored the only run of the game for Iowa in the seventh inning on a single by third baseman Chase Strumpf. Strumpf went 1 for 3 with a walk.
In case you were wondering, Moisés Ballesteros played the entire game as the DH and Carlos Pérez caught the entire game. Reese McGuire is the only catcher on the roster who did not play in tonight’s game.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies were cracked by the Biloxi Shuckers (Brewers), 8-5.
Starter Chris Kachmar took the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits over five innings. Kachmar walked three and struck out three.
Third baseman Pedro Ramirez hit his first home run of the year in the third inning with the bases empty. Ramirez went 1 for 4 with a sacrifice fly and two total runs batted in.
Center fielder Brett Bateman was 2 for 5 with a double and a steal. He scored once and drove in one.
Right fielder Jordan Nwogu was 2 for 4 and scored once.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs skinned the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 6-2.
Ryan Gallagher turned in a terrific start and got the win after allowing just one unearned run over six innings. Gallagher gave up just two hits, walked two and struck out nine.
Evan Taylor entered the game with the bases loaded and no one out in the eight. He got a fly-out, throw-out-in-a-rundown double play from the first batter he faced and then retired the next four batters in order. So he faced five batters, got six outs and the save. Taylor struck out two.
Second baseman Jefferson Rojas was 3 for 5 with a double to lead off the bottom of the first and an RBI single in the seventh inning. Rojas scored twice.
Shortstop Cristian Hernandez singled home Rojas in the first inning for the first run of the game. Hernandez went 2 for 4 and scored once.
Center fielder Rafael Morel was 1 for 2 with an RBI double and two walks. He scored once.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans lost to the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers), 4-3.
Kevin Valdez started and gave up just one run on four hits over six innings. Valdez walked four and struck out five.
Mathew Peters entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with the score tied 3-3. He took the loss giving up a walkoff single with two outs. Peters allowed one run on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He did not strike anyone out.
Left fielder Jose Escobar hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, his third. Escobar went 1 for 4.
The Birds had just three hits tonight.
