LOS ANGELES, CA—While many around Major League Baseball would expect the Los Angeles Dodgers offseason splash to be over after reportedly signing top free agent Kyle Tucker earlier this week, that does not appear to be the case heading into mid-January.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Dodgers are among several teams that are still connected in trade discussions for Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta.
So far this offseason, the team has addressed all its roster holes, beginning with the signing of Edwin Díaz to improve its late-inning bullpen and the signings of Andy Ibáñez, Miguel Rojas, and Kyle Tucker on the position player side.
The Dodgers’ interest in a rotation option on the trade market is surprising, given the amount of internal options the team already has with Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Emmet Sheehan, and Roki Sasaki, along with returning arms Gavin Stone and River Ryan.
Still, as the old saying goes, you can never have enough starting pitching, and that sentiment remains true for Los Angeles, which saw most of their star-studded rotation end up on the injured list at some point during the season.
The Brewers have explored trading Freddy Peralta throughout the offseason, but no deal has materialized. The Dodgers, along with the Braves, Red Sox, Mets, and Yankees, have all been connected to the 29-year-old right-hander.
Peralta, 29, has been one of the more consistent starting pitchers over the last several years and is entering the final year of club control, set to earn $8 million in 2026. Hence, the Brewers are shopping him this winter.
The right-handed pitcher finished last season with a 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and averaged 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings over 176.2 innings in 33 starts. He was selected for his second All-Star game and ranked fifth in NL Cy Young Award voting.
How far the Dodgers go in these trade talks remains to be seen, but Latin MLB insider Héctor Gómez reported that the Dodgers are strongly pushing for his services and that discussions are becoming increasingly intense.
