Svert Reinoso is the most tantalizing prospect in the bunch, ranking 37 out of 50 on MLB.com’s list. The 17-year-old switch-hitting shortstop hails from the Dominican Republic.
From the region known to be a hotbed for MLB talent, Reinoso comes from a baseball-focused family that has been heavily involved in his development. Big leaguers such as Willy Adames and Christopher Morel are from Santiago as well.
Reinoso is known for his physical gifts, but also for his driven work ethic and high standards.
He has a scouting grade of 50 for hitting, power and fielding, while boasting a running ability of 45 and arm strength of 55.
The 17-year-old has more pop from the left side, but can hit from both sides. Scouts said he should have MLB-level power once fills out his frame.
The Guardians signed 12 players from Venezuela, eight from the Dominican Republic and two from Cuba, according to Senior Vice President of Scouting Paul Gillispie and Director of International Scouting Richard Conway.
