MILWAUKEE (WKOW) — The Milwaukee Brewers have traded their ace after a career season, sending All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta and reliever Tobias Myers to the New York Mets in exchange for two minor league prospects.

The announcement came from Brewers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Matt Arnold, as a Arnold spoke highly of the prospects, Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.

“Jett and Brandon are two of the top up-and-coming talents in baseball,” Arnold said. “We are adding both a dynamic athlete and an exciting arm to the organization that we see impacting the Major League team for years to come.”

The Milwaukee Brewers dealt their best starting pitcher after a career year.

Peralta, who has been with the Brewers organization since 2015, is coming off arguably the best season of his eight-year career. He won 17 games, the fourth-most in Major League Baseball, and finished fifth in National League Cy Young Award voting. His 204 strikeouts and 2.70 ERA were also in the top ten in baseball.

He had one year remaining on his contract.

Williams, mainly a shortstop and center fielder, is the Mets’ third-ranked prospect. Sproat, a right-handed pitcher, is New York’s fifth-ranked prospect.
