MINNEAPOLIS — Former Minnesota Twins television broadcaster Dick Bremer is joining an exclusive club after the team announced Friday that he’d been elected into the Twins Hall of Fame.
The Minnesota native will become the 42nd member of the Hall when he’s formally inducted on Saturday, July 11.
“For 40 seasons Dick Bremer wasn’t just the voice of Twins baseball, he was woven into the fabric of it,” Twins President, Baseball & Business Operations Derek Falvey said in a press release.”His love for the game, this team, and his home state of Minnesota came through every night in a way fans could feel.”
Bremer was born in St. Paul and raised in Dumont, Minnesota. He first began calling Twins games in 1983, and went on to cover everything from two World Series teams (1987, 1991) to the 59-win team of 2016. He called nearly 5,000 games during his 40-year career.
“Dick’s voice didn’t just describe the moments on the field,” Falvey said. “Over time it became part of how generations of Twins fans remember summers, pennant races, and unforgettable moments that stayed with them long after the final out. That kind of connection is rare and special.”
He began his play-by-play career broadcasting University of Iowa men’s basketball games before going on to call games for the Vikings, North Stars, Gophers, and Minnesota State High School League tournaments. Before joining the Twins in 1983, he was the weekend sportscaster for WTCN — now KARE 11. He officially stepped away from the broadcast booth in 2023, and transitioned to a special assistant with the Twins.
“Honoring Dick with his election to the Twins Hall of Fame is a fitting celebration of what he gave to this organization, this community, and everyone who loves Twins baseball,” Falvey said.
