GAME ONE
ROCHESTER 7, SYRACUSE 4 / 8 (BOX)
Syracuse took the initial lead and held onto it for most of the ballgame, but Syracuse ended up in the loss column to start the afternoon thanks to some late inning problems. In the seventh, with Syracuse up 3-0, Blade Tidwell gave up a three-run homer to tie the ballgame and in the eighth, Colin Poche allowed four more to give the Red Wings the eventual win.

GAME TWO
SYRACUSE 14, ROCHESTER 3 / 7 (BOX)
Syracuse came out of the gates swinging, absolutely ruining the evenings of Red Wings starter Seth Shuman and reliever Jack Sinclair. The Mets scored eight runs off of the former (seven earned) and four runs against the latter (all earned), putting up a five-spot in the bottom of the first and a seven-spot in the second. Luis De Los Santos added one more run for Syracuse, but given their lead, it didn’t really have an impact on this ballgame. Anthony Gose allowed three runs in the sixth, but Rochester never really seriously threatened Syracuse in this one.

BINGHAMTON 3, RICHMOND 2 (BOX)
Zach Thornton threw six-plus innings, and over the course of those six-plus innings, he did not allow a single hit, did not issue a single walk, and struck out six. A William Lugo double in the fourth put the Rumble Ponies in the lead, but Thornton was robbed a very deserving win when Anthony Nunez issued two walks in the top of the eighth (ruining the perfect game) and then allowed a double to third baseman Sabin Ceballos (ruining the no-hitter) that drove in two runs (ruining the shutout). Binghamton failed to score in the eighth but was able to salvage the game in the bottom of the ninth. With Omar De Los Santos on third, Wyatt Young laced a line drive into center that walked the game off.

JERSEY SHORE 10, BROOKLYN 8 (BOX)
This entire Brooklyn-Lakewood series has been a mess with the weather and the scoring, and this one was certainly the latter and almost the former as well. The BlueClaws took the initial lead with two runs in the first and another in the third, but Estarling Mercado leveled things back with a three-run homer in the fourth. In the fifth, Carson Benge and Ronald Hernandez combined to add three more runs to Brooklyn’s ledger, but Jersey Shore came rumbling back in the sixth and put up a five-spot to give them an 8-6 lead. They added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, and those runs came up big as Chris Suero drove in two in the ninth. Unfortunately, close but no cigar for the Cyclones. The rehabbing Frankie Montas made his first start since being put on the disabled list with a high-grade right lat strain and was clearly still shaking off the rust. Scheduled to throw 30-35 pitches, he threw 37 in 1.1 innings of work, allowing two hits, walking two, and striking out one.

ST. LUCIE 8, JUPITER 0 / 5 (BOX)
We had a pitching duel early on with Edgar Moreta and Jupiter starter Walin Castillo matching each other zero for zero, but in the bottom of the fifth, things fell apart for Jupiter. The frame started off with four straight hits for St. Lucie, followed by a pair of walks and another single before an out was recorded. St. Lucie proceeded to then log a single and three consecutive walks before the rain started coming down so hard that the game was delayed. It was finally called in the fifth with the bases loaded and St. Lucie having only one out after a lengthy delay of almost an hour-and-a-half. I would like to think that, if the game hadn’t been ended early, St. Lucie would’ve scored another 8 runs minimum while keeping the Hammerheads off the board for the entire game.
