The Chicago White Sox have been one of the more active teams throughout the offseason, and continue to make moves as it continues on. There are some holes on the roster, and with an inexperienced team, adding a veteran could be worth it for the experience alone. Chicago made a move on Friday afternoon to bolster the team, so let’s take a closer look at who the team added and what it means for them going forward.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan has reported that the Chicago White Sox have made another signing as they have agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract with reliever Seranthony Dominguez. Dominguez spent time with the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays last season and combined for 67 appearances. He ended the season 4-4 with a 3.16 ERA and a 36:79 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 62.2 innings. Dominguez is projected to be the White Sox’s closer, and this gives the team a pitcher with experience, as no other reliever has at least three years of MLB service time.

Dominguez had some control issues as his 12 wild pitches last season were the most in MLB. However, he has a five-pitch arsenal with his fastball, sweeper, and splitter all being great putaway pitches.

This deal is essentially using the money that was earmarked for Luis Robert Jr. before he was traded away to the New York Mets. This contract also allows Chicago to be able to use him as a tradable piece when the MLB Trade Deadline approaches if they are too far out of it. Teams are going to be aggressive to add bullpen help, and this contract makes him movable. It will be intriguing to see how he does with the White Sox going forward, as he has a good chance to be successful with a young team.
