The Texas Rangers haven’t been one of the league’s biggest spenders this offseason, but they have been making some under-the-radar moves.
But, compared to the top spenders around baseball, the Rangers haven’t added a ton of talent to their roster this offseason. That is all changing in one move.
According to Jon Heyman of The New York Press, the Rangers are trading for Washington Nationals left-handed starting pitcher and All-Star, MacKenzie Gore. It’s a blockbuster trade for the Rangers, as they add the top trade target left this offseason.
Rangers to trade for MacKenzie Gore from Nationals
“Breaking; MacKenzie Gore traded to Rangers,” Heyman reported Thursday afternoon. This move is a big one for the Rangers, as they’re adding a top starter to their rotation this offseason.
Gore’s addition is much more than a simple one-year rental as well. He’s under club control through the 2027 season. Two years of control is a big deal, as it gives the Rangers two years to contend and an extra offseason to execute a trade if needed.
Gore had a 4.17 ERA in 2025 across 30 starts, and if it weren’t for the Nationals’ struggles, his 5-15 record might look a bit better. He had a 3.90 ERA in 32 starts in 2024 and a 4.42 ERA in 27 starts in 2023.

The Nationals’ lefty isn’t the best starter in the Major Leagues, but he has plenty of potential and should make for a great addition to the Rangers’ rotation.
Jacob DeGrom will now have Gore pitching behind him in the Rangers’ rotation. Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker round out a high-upside rotation in Texas, and one that could be one of the best in baseball if they all hit their ceiling.
This is a fun trade for the Rangers, and while they’re giving up five players to land Gore, the left-handed starter who’s going to turn 27 years old at the end of February, is a phenomenal pickup for the Rangers’ rotation.
