Jose Ramirez has signed a massive 7-year extension with the Guardians.
The Cleveland Guardians locked up its franchise cornerstone for the long haul Saturday morning.
ESPN’s Hector Gomez reported that the Guardians restructured Jose Ramirez’s contract extension, signing the All-Star third baseman to a seven-year, $175 million deal that runs through 2032.
The restructured contract pays Ramirez $25 million per year from 2026-2032, adding four additional seasons (2029-2032) beyond his original 2022 extension and bringing the new total agreement to $175 million.
The move ensures that Ramirez, 33, will retire as a Guardian and likely hold nearly every major offensive franchise record by the end of his career.
Jose Ramirez Contract Extension Details with Cleveland Guardians
Ramirez originally signed a five-year, $124 million extension with Cleveland in April 2022 (covering 2024-2028), which included a full no-trade clause and was the largest in franchise history at the time. That deal was set to pay him $21 million in 2026, $23 million in 2027, and $25 million in 2028, with three years and $69 million remaining on the contract.
The Guardians essentially renegotiated Ramirez’s remaining three years and tacked on four additional seasons, creating a new seven-year, $175 million agreement that pays him a consistent $25 million annually through 2032. The deal includes a full no-trade clause, ensuring Ramirez maintains complete control over his future.
BREAKING NEWS: Jose Ramirez is a Guardian for the long haul. The third baseman star has signed a new deal: 7-year, $175 million extension through the 2032 season.
In April, 2022, Ramirez and the Guardians agreed on a five-year, $124M contract extension.
Ramirez has expressed his desire to spend his entire career in Cleveland, even accepting below-market contracts to help the Guardians field a competitive team. In recent interviews, Ramirez acknowledged his 2022 extension was below his market value but said he understood the limitations of a small-market team.
“Cleveland is a small-market team, and they simply can’t pay me what I could command on the open market,” Ramirez told Gomez in a recent interview. “So I told them, Let’s find a fair agreement that works for both sides.”
Jose Ramirez Stats: Elite Production at Age 33
Ramirez showed no signs of slowing down in 2025, finishing the season with 30 home runs, 85 RBIs, 44 stolen bases, and a .283 batting average in 158 games. His .863 OPS marked his 10th consecutive season with an OPS above .800, cementing his status as one of the game’s most consistent producers.
The switch-hitter joined the 30-30 club for the third time in his career in 2025 (2018, 2024, 2025), becoming the first player in franchise history with three 30-30 seasons. He’s now just the second third baseman in MLB history with multiple 30-30 seasons.
The seven-time All-Star has made five consecutive All-Star appearances from 2021-2025, establishing himself as one of the American League’s premier players. His six Silver Slugger Awards (2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025) tie him for the most in Guardians franchise history.
Ramirez earned All-MLB First Team honors multiple times, including in 2025, and has finished in the top five of MVP voting throughout his career, including multiple top-three finishes. Despite his individual accolades, Ramirez has yet to win an MVP award—a goal that continues to drive the elite third baseman.
Ramirez Helped Restore Cleveland as AL Powerhouse Across the Last Decade
The one prize that has eluded Ramirez is a World Series championship—a goal that continues to drive the veteran third baseman. He came closest in 2016, when he hit .310 in the World Series as the Guardians fell to the Chicago Cubs in seven games. With the Guardians building a competitive roster and Ramirez locked in through 2032, winning baseball’s ultimate prize remains within reach for the franchise cornerstone.
The Guardians have reached the playoffs seven times in the last 10 seasons with Ramirez as their cornerstone, winning the AL Central in 2022, 2024, and 2025. Cleveland advanced to the ALCS in 2024 before falling to the New York Yankees.
Ramirez’s commitment to Cleveland stands in stark contrast to the player movement that defines modern baseball. His willingness to accept hometown discounts while maintaining elite production has made him one of the most respected players in the game and a franchise icon in Cleveland.
