It’s a new year, which means it’s time for new prospect rankings.
The Athletic published Keith Law’s updated top 100 MLB prospects on Monday, and four Pittsburgh Pirates players made the list, including one at the very top.
Not surprisingly, Law ranked Konnor Griffin as the best prospect in baseball after his sensational 2025 campaign. Law praised his off-the-charts skills and impressive approach.
“The physical tools are still all there; it’s probably 80 power, it’s definitely 80 run and he’s got at least a 70 arm.” Law wrote. “Griffin has also shown exceptional ability to make adjustments, even within games or at-bats, bringing his chase rate down throughout the season and ending the year with a chase rate on pitches well out of the zone of just 21 percent.”
Law is clearly high on Griffin, even comparing him to three-time MVP and future Hall of Famer Mike Trout.

“He’s probably going to stick at shortstop and be a plus defender there, while posting high OBPs and hitting 25+ homers a year. I think he’s the most exciting prospect we’ve had in the minors since Mike Trout, and I think he’s going to end up one of the best players in baseball once he gets established,” Law gushed.
The Pirates are hoping Griffin can debut in 2026 and make an immediate impact, similar to Paul Skenes two years ago. They’re desperate for offense after ranking last in runs last season, but Griffin has the skills to provide Pittsburgh a massive boost right off the bat.

Three other Pirates made Law’s list with Bubba Chandler at No. 14, Edward Florentino at No. 42 and Seth Hernandez at No. 100, so Griffin isn’t the only rising star in Pittsburgh’s system, either.
