It’s Sunday once more, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! Since the last time we met, the Yankees have had a very good week (Friday loss in Denver notwithstanding), completing a series win over the Mets before sweeping the Texas Rangers. The rest of New York sports, though…the less said, the better. How have the Yankees reacted to recent events? Let’s find out!
Fleet Week
Anyone who wandered around Midtown this week undoubtedly noticed a larger-than-usual number of sailors, a sign that could only mean one thing: Fleet Week! To kick off the annual commemoration of those who have served the nation on the seas, the Yankees had Col. Dwight Schmidt, the father of pitcher Clarke Schmidt, throw out the ceremonial first pitch this week.
Yanks at the Garden
The big story in the New York sports world this week has been, unfortunately, the Knicks falling behind 2-0 to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Members of the Yankees family were in attendance, with CC Sabathia — a big basketball fan, and a common visitor at the World’s Most Famous Arena — and even Michael Kay visiting the Mecca for either Game 1 or 2.
DJ Jazz
Jazz Chisholm Jr. might be on the injured list, but he still remains an active presence in the Yankees’ sphere. Last Sunday, the organization celebrated the New York Liberty, who won their first-ever WNBA title this past October. Chisholm, an avid basketball fan, made sure not only to be there, but to participate in a jersey swap with Breanna Stewart.
A few days later, donning the basketball jersey giveaway from a few weeks ago, he picked up a shift in the stadium DJ booth.
The Cole Kids on the Block
Since Gerrit Cole is out for the season due to Tommy John surgery, he and his family haven’t been around the Stadium as much as they typically are. So when Cole brought his kids to the Bronx for Sunday Night Baseball against the crosstown Mets, Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe made sure to visit their young buds.
Cruz’s Injury
Yankees reliever Fernando Cruz took to Instagram after hitting the injured list with a shoulder injury to express his determination to return better than ever.
Question of the Day
With the Yankees about to embark on a long road trip that would keep them out of the Bronx until June, the social media team decided to ask the players about their desired hotel conditions.
