South Jersey travelers who like to use Atlantic City International Airport got a bit of good news on Wednesday morning.
Breeze Airlines Joins Spirit and Allegiant at ACY
The airport announced it would be adding a third airline option, with Breeze Airlines joining Allegiant Airlines and Spirit Airlines, servicing travelers out of ACY.
While Breeze won’t offer a ton of options, they do offer an interesting option for Philadelphia Phillies fans who like to head to Clearwater to see the Phillies play during Spring Training in March.
One of the destinations that Breeze will be flying to is the Tampa Bay Airport (with one stop), which gives Phillies fans a third option.
In addition to Tampa International Airport, which is where Spirit Air flies, Allegiant flies to nearby St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE), both of which are within a 30-minute drive to Clearwater, where the Phillies play.
Timing Your Trip: Why Breeze is a 2027 Spring Training Play
This gives local Phillies fans three different options to see the Phillies at Spring Training next season. I say next season, because Breeze Airlines will not start flying out of Atlantic City until May, with flights to Tampa starting in June of 2027, which means this service will be an option for the 2027 Spring Training.
You could use American Airlines, which provides bus service from ACY to the Philadelphia Airport, with the flight from Philly to Tampa. So you park your car in Atlantic City and fly from Philly.
In addition to Tampa, the stops Breeze will be making are in Charleston, S.C., and Raleigh-Durham, N.C., with fares starting at $39 one way.
“We know Atlantic City will be a welcome addition to our guests in Charleston, Raleigh, and Tampa, and we look forward to introducing our new guests in Atlantic City to Breeze.”
Budget-Friendly Flight Options for Phillies Spring Training
Now, Phillies fans can compare prices to see which flights are cheaper. The Tampa Airport to the place I stay in Tampa is a 37-minute Uber ride, while a ride from the St. Pete’s-Clearwater airport to the same place is only 29 minutes.
Not a huge difference, but if the flight is cheaper, you might be more inclined to pick the cheaper airport with only an 8-minute difference in ride.
The issue with Allegiant is that they only fly two days per week, Monday and Friday. While Spirit flies every day, its service to Tampa is limited, with only one flight in the middle of the day. Of the three, Spirit seems to be the more expensive option, but it offers flights every day of the week.
It looks like Breeze will be flying on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so you have another option if you want to see the Phillies next season.
Best Current Options: Allegiant vs. Spirit for the 2026 Season
For this year, if you want to leave on a Monday or Friday, Allegiant is a great option to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. Any other day, Spirit will get you to Tampa and back to ACY.
