The Milwaukee Brewers continued filling out the group of players they’ll head into camp with by signing catcher Reese McGuire to a minor-league contract with an invitation to major-league spring training on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

McGuire, who turns 31 on March 2, has played 399 games in the majors since breaking in with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018.

He most recently played 44 games for the Chicago Cubs in 2025, hitting .226 with nine home runs, 24 runs batted in and an OPS of .688.

A left-handed batter, McGuire is a career .248 hitter with 25 homers, 106 RBI and an OPS of .667 who has also played for the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.

McGuire’s addition gives the Brewers a third catcher with major-league experience in camp; to this point prospect Jeferson Quero has been viewed as the odds-on favorite to serve as the backup to William Contreras in 2026 despite having played only 59 games at Class AAA Nashville.

Including non-roster invitees Darrien Miller, Ramón Rodríguez and Matthew Wood, Milwaukee now has six catchers lined up to take part in spring training, with pitchers and catchers taking part in their first workouts on Feb. 12.
