With the start of MLB Spring Training roughly a month away, the MLB offseason is reaching its peak, and there are still major moves that need to be made for teams ahead of the season getting underway. For the San Francisco Giants, they are reportedly still looking for pitching help, according to Jon Heyman.
*Prediction*
A way in which the Giants can end up achieving better starting pitching is by making a trade at this point in the offseason. One trade they can look to make ahead of the season is with the Kansas City Royals for Kris Bubic.

The Kansas City Royals find themselves in an interesting spot as they finished last season with a record of 82-80. They have the baseline to be contenders, but one major thing they are still missing that they need to address is their outfield position. How the Royals can end up getting the outfield talent they need is by going through with a trade.
There are plenty of teams that need pitching help, and the Royals have an abundance of pitchers left under team control, like Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Cole Ragans, Bailey Falter, Noah Cameron, Ryan Bergert, and Stephen Kolek. Then there is Kris Bubic, who is set to enter his final season, and could be the one the Royals look to move on from for better assets in return.
What helps Kris Bubic’s trade value is that he is coming off a turnaround 2025 season in which he finished with a 2.55 ERA, 24.4% strikeout rate, 8.2% walk rate, and had a 47.2% ground ball rate. Bubic is just 28 years, which makes his potential even more enticing as he is still young and has flashed his potential as an upside-level starter.
The biggest thing with Kris Bubic is him needing to stay healthy, as he had Tommy John surgery in 2023, and has had to work himself back from that. His 2025 season shows he is on the right track, but will need to show it on a consistent basis. Still, Bubic is a starting-level pitcher who would fit in with the Giants’ rotation.
With the San Francisco Giants having just signed Harrison Bader, their outfield is a bit crowded with talent. This opens up the ability for them to move off some of their outfielders to acquire the pitching help they need like Kris Bubic.
