WHITE OAK — The Sherman Shadowcats notched 12-11 and 12-2 wins over the Piney Woods TimberHogs on Friday and Saturday to take a 3-0 lead in a season-opening Mid-America League series at White Oak City Park.

The teams were scheduled to close out the series at 6 p.m. on Sunday. After a day off on Monday, Piney Woods will open a three-game set against the Texarkana Rhinos at 7 p.m. on Tuesday back in White Oak.

On Friday, the TimberHogs scored three times in the bottom of the second to tie things at 3-3, but Sherman scored six times in the top of the third and led 11-6 before the TimberHogs pushed across five runs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 11 apiece.

Sherman scored once in the top of the seventh and held on for the win.

Kenan Harvey doubled and drove in a run for PineyWoods. Anthany Smith had two hits. Aramis Cruz singled and drove in two runs, and Garrett Sheffield and Jackson Meng had an RBI apiece.

Aubrey Miuchen went two thirds of an inning on the mound for Piney Woods and took the loss, walking three and giving up one earned run. Jackson Wilkerson walked three and allowed eight earned runs in two innings. Former Spring Hill standout Andrew Grooters fanned one, walked four and allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings, and Kezlin Doglas struck out four and walked four in three innings.

Michael Dudolski, the former Whitehouse star, had three hits and an RBI, Korson Hastings two hits and three RBI and Marshyl Stennett and Jack Wilhelm two RBI apiece for Sherman.

Evan Doss went three innings on the mound for the win, and Cole Evans worked two thirds of a frame for the save.

On Saturday, Sherman erupted for seven runs in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead on the way to the 12-2 win.

Sheffield doubled and drove in two runs for the TimberHogs. Olivia Pichardo singled and walked.

Tahj Cunningham took the loss, giving up seven earned runs while striking out two and walking four in two innings. Jack Haag went three innings, striking out five and walking one. Matt Huey struck out three and walked two while giving up no runs on one hit in two innings, and Tristian Martinez walked four and gave up one earned run in two innings.

Cole Carnes had two hits and three RBI, and Dudolski and Landon Kerkmaz both drove in two runs for the Shadowcats.

Evans went two innings of relief and got the pitching win for Sherman.
