The San Francisco Giants have not been as busy as some other teams have been this winter. They have made only a handful of moves, none being too big a splash, either.

They came to terms with Adrian Houser on a two-year deal and Tyler Mahle on a one-year deal. They also reinforced their bullpen by signing Sam Hentges and Jason Foley.
Their biggest splash came recently when they signed Harrison Bader. The two sides agreed on a two-year, $20 million contract, and he should pair well with Jung Hoo Lee.

One area the Giants could improve is at second base. With Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman scattered across the infield, a sure-glove second baseman is just what they need.

With only a few options on the open market, San Francisco could turn to the trade market ot help fill the hole. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the Giants could potentially acquire Nico Hoerner in a trade with the Chicago Cubs for OF Bo Davidson and RHP Blake Tidwell.
“Davison is probably at least a year away. But with both Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki hitting free agency next winter, looking ahead to 2027 with an outfielder acquisition is probably the play for Chicago—especially after trading away Owen Cassie to get Edward Cabrera. And Tidwell is hardly a throwaway piece in the deal. He was one of the chips San Francisco got for Tyler Rogers this past summer, and he has some promise if he keeps the walks under control.”
This deal would help the Cubs rebound after shipping Owen Cassie to the Miami Marlins, and San Francisco would get a solid second baseman, who has previous ties to shortstop.
This could be something to watch for in the coming weeks, but Miller also mentions the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers as other potential suitors for Hoerner.
