Gonzaga alum and former Seattle Mariners pitcher Marco Gonzales is attempting a comeback to Major League Baseball after inking a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres.

Gonzales’s contract includes an invitation to major league spring training. Gonzales has not pitched since 2024 as he has been rehabbing from flexor tendon surgery.

The last time we saw Gonzales on a big league mound, he started seven games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and pitched to a 4.54 ERA before receiving flexor surgery.

The oft-injured 34 year-old hopes to return to his 2021 form where he pitched to a 3.96 ERA and won 10 games for the Mariners.

If Gonzales makes San Diego’s Opening Day roster, he can make up to $2.5 million in incentives.

Gonzales joins fellow former Zag Alek Jacob in the Padres organization.
