Could we see Sebastian Walcott, the Texas Rangers’ top prospect, in the big leagues in 2026?
Team president Chris Young said that it’s a possibility on a recent radio appearance on GBAG Nation on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM).
“He will determine his fate,” Young said. “How he performs this year, whether he starts in Double-A or Triple-A, will determine his timeline in the big leagues. With players of his talent level, you just don’t put any limits on what they’re capable of, and I can’t predict how fast he may come. It may be in 2026. It may be 2027.
“I have no idea, but I do know he’s going to be a really good Major League player,” Young added. “We’re not going to rush his development, but he may rush us.”

Walcott, who is currently ranked the No. 7 prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, slashed .255/.355/.386 in 124 games with the Frisco Roughriders last year, posting career bests in walk (13 percent) and strikeout (20 percent) rate.
The 19-year-old shortstop is one of the Rangers’ 10 non-roster invitees for spring training next month. Young said he isn’t expected to break camp with the major league team, even as he praised Walcott’s off-the-field attributes.
“His work ethic, the head on his shoulders, his care factor, it’s just all the intangibles that you want,” Young said. “He’s got the makings of a great player and it’s our job to help him realize that, but it’s gonna be a big year for him and we’re excited about his future.”
Rangers’ MacKenzie Gore on joining a rotation with Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi
Gore will likely slot into the third spot in the starting rotation after Texas’ dual aces.
Acquiring MacKenzie Gore is a logical move for Rangers, even if it doesn’t work out
Chris Young is playing his ‘win now’ card because Gore gives him a potential championship-caliber rotation along with Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Jack Leiter.
