After getting to the World Series in 2025, the Toronto Blue Jays duo of general manager Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider is still waiting on some long-term security.

According to MLBTradeRumors, the twosome has not received contract extensions yet, though they are expected to come.

GM Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider are both entering the final year of their contracts, as the Jays exercised their 2026 club option on Schneider’s deal back in November.  This duo was facing heavy pressure heading into the 2025 season, yet Toronto’s AL pennant and near-miss in the World Series has entirely changed the narrative for both Atkins and Schneider.  The Blue Jays already extended team president/CEO Mark Shapiro a few weeks ago, and extensions for Atkins and Schneider should follow before Opening Day.

That’s certainly good news for them individually, but it’s also good news for fans who enjoy top-down continuity when the team is good – and the Jays are. They will enter the 2026 season as one of the favorites in the American League and will be expected to compete for the AL East title again.

With regards to Schneider, he’s spent three-plus years at the helm of the Jays, taking over part way through 2022. He’s led Toronto to the playoffs in 2022, 2023 and 2025, but 2025 was the first time he had won a single playoff game. Lifetime, he’s 303-257 and he has one division title.

Atkins has been the Jays GM since the 2016 season. He helped the Blue Jays to the American League Championship Series in 2016 and then built playoff rosters in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2025.

This offseason, he’s been quite active, signing Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers and Kazuma Okamoto to multi-year deals.

–World Baseball Classic rosters officially come out next Thursday, but we already known that several Jays players will be participating, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Dominican Republic), Ernie Clement (Team USA), Yariel Rodriguez (Cuba) and Kirk (Mexico). There could still be other announcements.

–While the Blue Jays enter 2026 as one of the favorites to get to the World Series, they are not without questions. We tackled three big questions for Toronto in this piece here, including how they handle the glut of veteran pitchers on the 40-man roster.
