The San Francisco Giants failed to reach the playoffs for a fourth straight year, with the team ranking below league average in every major batting category. Improving offense, especially from the second baseman position, was the chief goal for the Giants’ front office this winter. St. Louis Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan was reportedly their main target in this area.
However, on Saturday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN announced that the San Francisco Giants acquired Luis Arraez on a one-year, $12 million contract. His colleague Jeff Passan stated that the three-time batting champion will have a permanent role as the second baseman for the Giants to build a star-studded starting infield.
“The Giants and Luis Arraez are in agreement on a one-year contract, sources tell ESPN,” Jorge Castillo reported via X on Saturday evening.
“Luis Arraez entered this winter looking to play second base full-time, and that’s where the Giants intend to play him, filling out an infield that includes Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman,” Jeff Passan tweeted minutes later.
